| Central Library |
|
The library is not only
a source of information, knowledge and learning but is also
a forum for
Self-evaluation,self-education, and
empowerment.
|
The prime responsibility of a higher learning
institution is preservation of knowledge. Preservation
facilitates transmission and advancement. Hence the
preserve of the knowledge in an institution is the hub
around which the educational pursuit progresses. This
all-important knowledge preserve, namely the Library, is
the most precious place of educational resource. Aware
of this truth, Sudharsan Engineering College has raised
an edifice for its Central Library that stands tall and
proclaims its significance. Dedicated to Dr. S. R.
Ranganathan, Father of Library and Information Science
in India, the Library is modern in both outlook and
operations.
Its growing stock has more than 30,000 documents
consisting of technical books, reports and back volumes
of journals. It subscribes to 130 periodicals including
international journals (print) plus 125+ (e-Journals)
besides holding 250 back volumes of journals. Reprography facility is available inside the
Library for members' convenience. A CD-ROM workstation
and an Audio visual section are recent additions to the
expanding facilities.

All the Library management
functions such as Acquisition, Circulation control,
Cataloguing and Serials control have been automated
using ERP software called 'SCHOLAR. It supports OPAC
(Online Public Access Catalog), an electronic catalog of
a library's holdings, usually searchable by author,
title, subject, or keyword. Accessing this on the campus
network, the members can:
- Get periodical list of recent additions to the
library
- Find the materials checked out to them
- Get details of the status of the Books
Stepping into its next stage of development the
Library has established a Digital Library with scores of
e-books accessible through 20 clients on the LAN system
exclusively placed inside its premises. Students
routinely use this facility and profit by the new
technology.
The Library holds membership with INDEST-AICTE and with DELNET, New Delhi for
Inter-library loan. |

and most constant of friends; they are the most
accessible and wisest of counselors, and the most
patient of teachers. |
