National Service Scheme
National Service Scheme popularly known as NSS was launched in the Gandhiji Centenary year, 1969, and is aimed at developing students’ personality through community service. The overall objective of the National Service is educational. This objective is attained through the service to the community.
NSS is a permanent youth programme under the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, Government of India and funded by Government of TamilNadu and Government of India in the ratio 5:7.
The activities of NSS mainly focused on Technology transfer to rural mass and help the rural youth for creating job opportunity by conducting different types of training programmes
The overall objective of NSS is Personality Development through Community Service. The motto or watchword of the NSS is “Not Me But You”. This reflects selfless service and appreciation of the other person’s point of view and also to show consideration for fellow human beings. It underlines that the welfare of an individual which is ultimately dependent on the welfare of the society on the whole.
The symbol of the NSS is “Rath” wheel of the Konark Sun temple situated in Orissa. These giant wheels of the Sun temple portray the cycle of creation, preservation and release, and signify the movement in life across time and space. The design of the symbol, a simplified form of the Sun – Chariot wheel primarily depicts movement. The wheel signifies the progressive cycle of life; it stands for continuity as well as change and implies the continuous striving of NSS for social transformation and upliftment. |

Under the auspices NSS units 1&2, Special Camp was conducted at Muthumariamman ThirumanaMandapam, Narthamalai from 02-12-2011 to 08-12-2011.Mr.K.Karthikeyan, NSS Programme officer Unit 1,welcomed the gathering. Mr.Illavarasan, Anna Vasal Union Councillor, inaugurated the Camp. Mr.Velu , Panchayat President, Mr. Muthusenathipathi, Vice Prseident,Mr.Raja , Kurukal, Mr.Arumugam, Former District Councillor offered their felicitations.Ms.P.Subhashree, NSS Programme officer- Unit -2,proposed Vote of Thanks.Awareness meetings on Legal Aid, Right to Information Act (2005) and Consumer Rights were conducted. Mr.SenthamizSelvan, Advocate, Tiruchirapalli, Rotarian RU.Raman, Vice President, Pudukkottai District Consumer Council, Pudukkottai participated.Programmes on "Students Good Mental Health" and "Gender equality" were conducted. Dr.Shrinivas, Mental Skills Trainer, Chennai and Mr.Rajkumar, Senior Scientist, M.S.Swaminathan Agricultural Research Center participated.Free Medical Camp and Free ENT Camp were conducted.Dr. R.Suresh Kumar, Chief Civil Surgeon, Government Head Quarters Hospital, Pudukkottai and Dr. S.Saravanan ENT Specialist, Pudukkottai participated. A total of 117 villagers were benefited and medicines worth Rs.3000/ were distributed.The surroundings of Muthumariamman Temple were cleaned by our NSS team. Free Eye Screening Camp was conducted by the doctors of Vasan Eye Hospital .A special programme on "Yoga and Positive Health" was conducted byMr.A.Selvaraj, Yoga Consultant, and Prof Manjula Bala, Manavazakalai, Pudukkottai .Drinking water facility(Bore well) was erected at the local school campus at the cost of Rs.20000/- co-sponsored by the management of Sudharsan Engineering college and National Service Scheme. Mr.Sajith Babu, Youth Officer and Head NSS Regional Center, was the Chief Guest for valediction . Sri.V.K.Sundaram, Chairman, Sudharsan Engineering College, in his address, volunteered to donate 5 Computer systems and also construct a compound wall for the middle school. Mr.Ajay .K.Sundaram, Vice Chairman. Dr.MRadhakrishnan, Principal, SUDEC, Dr.JyothiVenkatachalam, NSS Programme Coordinator, Anna University of Technology, Tiruchirapalli, Ms.Rajalaxmi, Headmistress, Mr.Muthusenatipathi, Vice President, Mr.Raja, Kurukal participated and offered their felicitations. Prizes were distributed to all the school students who participated in the various events. Valediction took place on 08-12-2011. Mr.K.Karthikeyan, NSS Programme Officer, Unit 1 gave a detailed report on the activities of Special Camp.

| Blood Donation Camp |

Mr.K.Karthikeyan, NSS Programme officer, Sudharsan Engineering College organized blood donation camp as a part of National Voluntary Blood donation day, observed on October 1st 2010, was felicitated by Honorable Collector of Tiruchirapalli Mrs.Jayashree Muralidharan at a function organized in the Annal Gandhi Memorial Government Hospital, Tiruchirapalli recently.
He was presented with a shield and certificate. Mr.A.Kanagasundaram, Superintend of KAP Viswanatha Government Medical hospital, Mr.D.Mohanasundaram , Joint Director of Health Services, and Mr.A.M.Aleem , Vice Principal , K.A.P Viswanathan Hospital , Tiruchirapalli spoke on the occasion .

NSS Units 1&2 propose to conduct a Special Camp at Muthumariamman Thirumanamandapam, Narthamalai from 02-12-2011 to 08-12-2011.

The camp programme will have awareness meetings focused on Legal Aid, Right to Information Act (2005) and Consumer Rights, Free Medical Camp, Free Eye Screening Camp, Free Dental Camp, Free ENT Camp, a special programme on Yoga and Positive Health, and Cultural events and various competitions for school children.

| TEMPLE CLEANING PROGRAMME - NSS |

A request to clean up the temple premises of Thiruvarangulam was made to our Principal by the temple authorities.
NSS volunteers numbering 55 involving 30 boys and 25 girls were mobilized to carry out the task of cleaning the entire area with very hard manual effort as the area had very big stones on 18-09-11.
At the end of the programme, Mr.Kalayanasundaram, and the Programme officer Mr.K.Karthikeyan thanked all the volunteers for their great effort taken by them.

| Blood Donation - NSS Units I and II |

NSS Units I and II of Sudharsan Engineering College, Pudukkottai along with Government Head Quarters Hospital, Pudukkottai conducted a mass blood donation camp at the college premises on 13-09-11.
Mr.K.Karthikeyan, NSS Programme Officer welcomed the gathering and commended the volunteers who were willing to donate blood.
Dr.Saleem Abdul Kutus, Blood Bank Officer , Government Head Quarters Hospital was the Chief Guest of the Occasion. In his address to the students, he stressed the importance of donating blood and also gave information on the various components of the blood.
A whopping 122 students turned up for this mass blood donation programme and donated 122 units of blood.

| NSS - Workshop on Soft Skills |

Under the aegis of the NSS Units I and II, a programme on `Workshop on Soft Skills` was conducted for the benefit of NSS volunteers at the college premises on 03-09-11.
Dr.T.Jayakumar, Reader, Department of English, Periyar EVR College, Tiruchirapalli was the Chief Guest of the Occasion.
His address dealt with the concepts of Transaction Analysis, Time Management, Interpersonal Relations and Interview skills. He also wanted the volunteers to emulate the principles of Great leaders like Alexander, Dr.Abdul Kalam, Hitler etc .The NSS volunteers numbering 60 involving 30 boys and 30 girls actively participated and contributed splendidly towards the objective of the programme

NSS units I and II of Sudharsan Engineering College in association with the Nehru Yuva Kendra Sangathan (NYKS), Pudukkottai conducted a programme on `Sadbhavana Divas` to mark the birth Centenary of former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi.
Mr.K.Sathasivam, District Youth Coordinator, Nehru Yuva Kendra, Pudukkottai and
Mr.R.Rajkumar, Senior Scientist, M.S.Swaminathan Agricultural Research Center,
Pudukkottai were the Chief Guests of the occasion.
Mr.K.Sathasivam, District Youth Coordinator, NYKS administered pledge of Communal Harmony to the NSS Volunteers numbering 50 involving 25 boys and 25 girls. They took a vow not to discriminate people on the basis of caste, religion, creed and colour. They also took pledge not to resort to violence and solve problem amicably.
Mr.R.Rajkumar, Senior Scientist, in his address dealt with the concepts of National Integration, the significance of Chakra in the National Flag, National Integration Camp etc.

Under the aegis of the NSS Units I and II, a programme on `Behavioral Skills Enhancement Workshop` was conducted for the benefit of NSS volunteers at the college premises on 30-07-11. Dr.Shrinivas, Consultant Psychologist, Mental Skills Trainer, Chennai was the Chief Guest of the occasion.
In his address, he dealt with the concepts of Auto Suggestion, meta-cognition, emotional skills, learning skills, social skills, motivational skills, time management,
self – actualization etc. The NSS volunteers numbering 80 involving 40 boys and 40 girls actively participated and contributed splendidly for the objective of the programme.

He talked on various topics ranging from Motto of NSS , Objective of NSS, the role of NSS volunteer, the purpose of blue and red colour in the symbol, Team work , Character Building, Global warming, Republic day parade, National Integration camp etc.
